We have all noticed that for a few weeks now Instagram has turned our lives upside down by changing one of the pillars it was built on: the famous 1:1 feed.
The new layout — according to what some secret American intelligence sources have told us — is not just the result of an aesthetic choice, but a strategic one, aimed at optimising the user experience and increasing engagement through a more immersive approach, where posts take up more space on the screen, distractions are fewer and the time spent on the app is greater.

With the explosion of mobile and users’ growing interest in vertical content such as stories and reels compared with square ones, the vertical 4:5 format has become the new standard.

This change has obviously had a significant impact on the back catalogue of individual posts and now, to create content that fits the new grid perfectly, it is important to take into account and respect precise dimensions.

So below we share the basic guidelines that our intelligence “deep throat” has provided for creating perfect posts for the new course imposed by META.

1) The new dimensions for creating perfect posts on Instagram are:
– Feed: 1080x1350px (4:5)
– Profile grid: 1080x1440px (3:4)
An image uploaded in 4:5 format will therefore undergo a slight crop at the side margins in the profile grid: the trick, as always, is to leave a safe zone to prevent the elements at the edges from being cut off.

2) Already-published posts:
Reformat already-published posts through the dedicated “edit preview” section.

3) Reels:
For reels too, the correct dimensions are essential to avoid blurriness or display problems; an optimised reel will be in 9:16 format (1080x1920px), but in the new grid the preview dimensions have changed: reels will be shown in the grid as 1080×1440.
Avoid placing important elements outside the safe zone.
